Overview

The Miniature Particle Collider is a late-game production building used to create Deuterium, Strange Matter, and Antimatter. It is one of the main industrial machines for advanced material chains, and its outputs are all important for endgame progression. Like the Oil Refinery, it is a large rectangular structure with inputs positioned at the center of three sides. Its power draw is extremely high at 12 MW, so placing and supplying it is a significant infrastructure decision.

The machine is also an early terrestrial use for Frame Materials and is notably iron-intensive to build. Because of the variety of ingredients in its recipe, setting up logistics for it can require as many as two Interstellar Logistics Stations. This makes it less convenient to deploy than simpler production buildings, especially when used in larger numbers.

Although the Miniature Particle Collider can produce Deuterium from Hydrogen, this is rarely the best way to handle Deuterium production if efficiency is the goal. It converts 2 Hydrogen into 1 Deuterium, but its energy consumption is very high and its footprint is large. Fractionators outperform it for Deuterium production in every practical way, since they achieve better energy efficiency and overall space usage. The Collider is therefore best reserved for the recipes that only it can handle, especially Strange Matter and Antimatter production.

Because its recipes are tied to critical late-game materials, the Collider tends to become a permanent part of advanced factory design rather than a temporary stepping stone. However, its high power demand means that even a modest number of colliders can place a heavy burden on a planet’s grid. Careful power planning is required if it is to run continuously.

  • Its high electricity use can rival the output of a Mini Fusion Power Plant, so power stability matters.
  • For Deuterium alone, Fractionators are the superior option in both throughput and efficiency.
  • It is most valuable for Strange Matter and Antimatter chains, where it has no practical replacement.

In version 0.9.26.12891, the required Super-Magnetic Ring was reduced from 50 to 25.
