Large Solar Panel

Provides a small amount of power from the sun. More efficient than the standard solar panel.
Overview
The
Large Solar Panel is a power-producing building whose output depends on the ambient light level of its location. In campaign mode, its generation scales directly with that ambient light: sectors positioned to receive more light and those experiencing clear weather produce more power, while darker or weather-affected sectors reduce output. This makes the
Large Solar Panel a variable, environment-dependent source rather than a fixed-output generator in campaign play.
On custom maps that do not implement a dynamic light level or weather events, the
Large Solar Panel behaves predictably: it produces 96 power units per second. This fixed value makes it straightforward to plan a power grid on maps without environmental modifiers, since each panel contributes a constant amount to your network.
Because production is proportional to ambient light, consider the following practical points when using Large Solar Panels:
- Place them in sectors or map areas that have higher light levels to maximize yield; campaign sector choice and timing can materially change their effectiveness.
- Expect variable output in the campaign whenever weather events or sector placement change ambient lighting; plan your grid to tolerate fluctuations.
- On custom maps without dynamic lighting or weather, treat each panel as a reliable, steady source of 96 power units per second for capacity planning.
- When designing a power network that relies on solar generation in the campaign, provide additional sources or storage (where available) to buffer against periods of low ambient light caused by weather or sector characteristics.
- Cluster multiple panels to scale production; because each panel scales with the same ambient light value for its sector, grouped panels will rise and fall in output together as conditions change.
The
Large Solar Panel is best used where its variability is understood and accounted for: it provides predictable output on static maps and flexible, environment-linked generation during campaign runs where weather and planetary position are factors.
