RTG Generator

Uses the heat of decaying radioactive compounds to produce energy at a slow rate.
Overview
RTG Generator is a power-producing block that provides a steady output of electrical power to a base. At maximum efficiency it produces 72 power per second. It functions as a generator within the game’s power system and is used to supply nearby machines, transmitters, and storage blocks.
RTG Generator connects into the same power network as other generators, transmitters, and batteries. It should be treated as a source node: its output can be routed through nearby transmitters (including directional transmitters that send power to the closest block in 1, 2, or 3 directions, and the unlimited-range conductor alternative) and accumulated by storage blocks. Pairing
RTG Generator units with power storage smooths transient load: small batteries store 4000 power and large batteries store 50000 power, allowing sudden consumption spikes to be met without immediate generator oversaturation.
Placement and network considerations mirror the behavior of other Serpulo/Erekir-era power blocks: place transmitters to bridge gaps and direct power where needed, and use storage to level supply and demand. Directional transmitters have a range of 6 tiles and a power capacity of 10, while the conductor-like transmitter provides an unrestricted range with a power capacity of 10; choose transmitters based on layout constraints and the need to limit or permit power flow along specific paths.
Practical usage and strategy:
- Use
RTG Generator as a steady backbone supply for static production lines and defenses that require continuous power rather than bursty generation. - Connect generators into a distributed network with directional transmitters when you need to enforce one-way or limited routing; use the unlimited-range transmitters when you need flexible routing without directional limits.
- Add small or large battery storage near high-demand consumers to prevent brownouts during brief load spikes; small storage holds 4000, large holds 50000.
- When expanding, distribute RTG Generators so that long runs of transmitters carry less instantaneous load; this reduces reliance on a single link and keeps transmitter capacity below its limit of 10 where relevant.
- Monitor network topology: power flows through the closest direction for directional transmitters, so orient transmitters to prioritize which buildings receive generator output first.
RTG Generator integrates into the established Serpulo/Erekir power ecosystem and behaves like other mid- to late-game generators: a reliable, constant producer whose usefulness increases when combined with transmitters and battery storage to shape and stabilize the power network.
