Gas Bridge
Overview
Gas Bridge is a gas piping building that transfers gas across a gap without storing any contents itself. It is used to connect separate gas pipe systems cleanly, letting gas pass over interruptions in the line while keeping the pipe network from mixing contents in a way that can damage buildings. Like other bridges, it has a clear flow direction: gas enters from the white input side and leaves from the green output side.
The bridge can be rotated before placement with the O key, and the arrow in its center shows its direction if you are unsure. Because the bridge does not contain gas, the gas flowing through it does not exchange heat with the bridge, and deconstructing it will not cause gas to leak.
A few useful behaviors make Gas Bridge especially important in pipe routing:
- If another output pipe is connected at the bridge’s input, gas will prefer the bridge and flow exclusively through it until the bridge’s output is full. This is different from a normal split, which divides flow 50/50.
- If another input pipe is connected at the bridge’s output, gas from the bridge will be blocked until the other input pipe is empty.
- Separate pipe systems prevent mixed contents from causing building damage, so bridges are often used to keep systems organized and isolated.
In practice, Gas Bridge is most useful for carrying gas over an obstacle, joining sections of a network without storing gas in the crossing point, and controlling priority in a gas line without needing more complex automation.
