Overview

The Shrooman is an enemy native to the Undergrounds and one of the first hostile creatures players encounter. It is a basic mushroom-like foe that relies on a straightforward charge attack rather than more complex behavior, making it an early lesson in movement and spacing.

When a Shrooman spots a player, it tries to headbutt in a straight line. This charge is easy to read once it has acquired a target, and it makes a small grunt when it notices one. That audio cue can help players react before the attack begins. Shroomans primarily spawn on Fungal Soil placed in any biome, so they can appear wherever that terrain exists rather than being limited to a single region.

Their attack pattern leaves several clear openings for counterplay. Shroomans cannot change direction while headbutting, so sidestepping is usually enough to avoid the charge if you keep some distance. If a Shrooman hits a wall, it stuns itself, creating a large opening for retaliation. This also means terrain is an important factor when fighting them: open areas make them easier to dodge, while cramped spaces make them more dangerous.

  • Avoid fighting a Shrooman in a tight corridor if possible, since limited space reduces your ability to sidestep its charge.
  • If your movement speed is high enough and there is a small gap between you and a charging Shrooman, walking backward while swinging a melee weapon can defeat it very easily.
  • Walls can be used against them, since a collision will briefly leave them stunned and vulnerable.
  • Listening for the grunt that occurs when they detect a target can give you an early warning before the charge starts.

Because they are among the earliest enemies encountered in the Undergrounds, Shroomans are often the first creatures to teach players how to deal with predictable melee rushers. Their simplicity makes them manageable on their own, but their charge can still be dangerous when paired with poor positioning or restricted movement.
