Irwin

Overview
Irwin is an NPC who moves to the Island and runs Animal Shop Deed. He is the island’s animal specialist, and his dialogue and requests revolve around handling, raising, and donating animals. He becomes available only after the player has purchased Handling Licence Level 1, which is unlocked after Farming Licence Level 1.
To invite Irwin to move in, the player must have spent enough time on the island and raised their relationship with him to more than half a heart. Once he arrives, his shop is open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, but it is closed on Monday. After reaching at least two relationship hearts with him, the “Let’s hang out!” option becomes available the following day, allowing him to spend time with the player on his day off or after work.
Irwin’s dialogue makes it clear that he is passionate about animals of every kind. He talks about liking both harmless and dangerous creatures, and he is especially interested in the player showing animals to Theodore. He also expresses interest in farming-related animals, such as building a Bird Coop to raise a Chook. His barn role fits this theme: he is the NPC to visit for animal-related progression and management.
A few practical points stand out from his dialogue and unlock conditions:
- You must have Handling Licence Level 1 before Irwin will visit.
- He will not arrive immediately; he first needs enough island progress and a relationship above 1/2 heart.
- Irwin’s Barn operates during daytime business hours, but not on Monday.
- He is strongly tied to animal handling, animal care, and livestock progression.
- At two hearts or more, you can unlock the hangout option the next day.
His miscellaneous dialogue also shows a few gameplay-related habits. He mentions checking the donation box in the Base Tent Deed when the town is in debt, reinforcing that every Dink contributes to the town’s progress. He also comments on fishing times, noting that morning and night are the best times, and that there is not much fishing to be had around 10:00 am. These remarks are incidental, but they reinforce his friendly, practical personality and his role as one of the island’s approachable specialists.
Irwin is not just a shopkeeper; he is one of the key NPCs for players who want to focus on animals, livestock, and farm management.
