Overview

Franklyn is an NPC who moves onto the Island after the player has sold enough Shiny Discs and raised their relationship with him to more than three-quarters of a heart. He owns and runs Franklyn’s Lab, also known as the Crafting Lab, where he researches old technology found on the Island and sells blueprints for basic recipes.

He first introduces himself as a researcher from South City, explaining that the Island has fewer restrictions on what can be studied. He is highly interested in Shiny Discs and asks the player to bring any they find to him, promising generous payment for each one delivered. Franklyn also comments on a wide range of subjects, from farm pests and tools to food and island technology, reflecting his role as the game’s main technology-focused resident.

Franklyn’s Lab is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, and is closed on Saturdays and Sundays. If you are looking to progress his relationship or trigger his services efficiently, it helps to talk to him regularly and complete tasks for him when possible.

  • After a player reaches 2 or more relationship hearts, the “Let’s hang out!” option unlocks the next day.
  • NPCs are available to hang out with on their day off or after work.
  • Franklyn can send mail and gifts once the player is good friends with him; these mail gifts are weighted by friendship and appear only if the player has talked to him or completed a task for him that day.
  • Possible mail gifts from Franklyn include Cooked Saltwater Fish, Dinks, Old Key, Blueprint, and Quarry.

Franklyn’s dialogue reinforces his scientific and practical personality. He is fascinated by Island technology, mentions the tall Tele Towers, and recalls a mishap in South City where an experiment cut power to the whole city for 40 seconds. He also sells himself as a source of basic crafting knowledge, making him one of the most important NPCs for unlocking early progression through blueprints and Shiny Disc rewards.

His comments on other topics are equally distinctive: he warns that Jackaroos can ruin crops and suggests fencing farms, recommends Scarecrows when birds are bothering crops, and expresses enthusiasm for Cooked Giant Drumsticks, though he says he can barely finish one.
