Overview

The Saddled Mu is a tamed Mu or Wary Mu in Dinkum. It is created by placing a Mu Saddle on a wild Mu or Wary Mu, turning the animal into a rideable vehicle rather than a normal livestock-style companion. Once saddled, the Mu becomes a passive mount that can be driven around the island by walking up to it and selecting “Drive.”

Saddled Mus are found wherever their base animals appear: Mus live in the Plains, while Wary Mus live in the Tropics. They are passive by nature, but they are still vulnerable to predators, and even wild Wary Mus will attack them. Because they remain animals, they cannot be broken down and placed into the player’s inventory. A saddled Mu also cannot be unsaddled once equipped unless the Mu is killed by an aggressive animal.

A Mu Saddle is consumed when used on a suitable Mu, but if the Saddled Mu is sold, the saddle is returned to the mailbox. If the animal dies, it drops a Mu Saddle, Raw Meat, and Bone. This makes the saddle recoverable even after loss, which helps offset the risk of keeping one in dangerous areas.

  • Using a Mu Whistle teleports the closest Saddled Mu or Wary Mu to the player on the island.
  • Saddled Mus can be attacked and killed by aggressive animals, so they need protection if left unattended.
  • Feeding Quandongs restores their health.
  • They will sleep inside an Animal Stall.
  • In the Pedia, naming them “James” or “James Bendon” makes them wear Triangle Glasses.

Because a Saddled Mu functions as a vehicle, it is especially useful for quick travel and for carrying the player across open terrain. Its value comes from combining mobility with the familiarity of a tame animal, while still retaining the risks of an exposed creature in the wild.
