Overview
Scrap is a basic material item used in construction, ammunition and production chains. It appears as a mineable resource in several campaign sectors and is harvested by drills at modest rates. Scrap functions as a low-tier industrial input: it is commonly required in early and mid-game recipes and can also serve as specialized ammo with notable area effects.
Scrap is guaranteed to spawn in the following sectors: Ground Zero, Salt Flats, Ruinous Shores, The Craters, Stained Mountains, Tar Fields,
Overgrowth, Desolate Rift, Nuclear Production Complex, Biomass Synthesis Facility,
Impact 0078, Windswept Islands, and Extraction Outpost. Drill extraction rates for Scrap vary by drill and coverage: per-tile rates include 0.09 items/sec (up to 0.39 and boosted 1.02), 0.14 items/sec (up to 0.59, boosted 1.53), 0.21 items/sec (up to 1.92, boosted 4.93), and another 0.21 items/sec entry showing higher maximum throughput (3.42, boosted 11.10) depending on drill type and coverage.
Scrap is consumed and required in multiple building recipes. Source data lists common recipe quantities of Scrap used in constructions as 6, 24, 54, 96, and 96 units for various buildings. Certain production machines consume Scrap as an input in continuous processes; examples in raw data show machines that accept 1 Scrap per operation producing outputs at rates such as 12/sec, or machines that take 1 Scrap and run at 7.2/sec, and simple conversions that consume 1 Scrap to produce a single unit. These entries reflect Scrap’s role as a recurring feedstock across manufacturing chains.
When used as ammunition, Scrap has defined effects: it deals 3 direct damage, 33 area damage over an approximate 3.0-tile radius, applies a 5x ammo multiplier, and imposes -50% fire rate on the weapon using it. This makes Scrap-based ammo effective for area suppression at the cost of significantly reduced firing speed.
Practical usage and strategy:
- Stockpile Scrap early to unlock and sustain multiple building recipes; many low- and mid-tier structures require only Scrap as a primary material.
- Place drills on Scrap deposits and upgrade to higher-throughput drills to reach the boosted extraction rates listed above; coverage and drill type drastically affect yield.
- Use Scrap as area-effect ammunition when you need splash damage against clustered enemies, but plan for lower sustained DPS due to the fire-rate penalty.
- Integrate Scrap-consuming machines into your conveyor and junction layouts to smooth continuous production; matching input rates (e.g., 1 Scrap -> 12/sec) with feeder throughput prevents bottlenecks.
- Certain custom or challenge maps focus heavily on Scrap as the sole mineral; adapt base design and water/auxiliary supplies accordingly to exploit Scrap-focused economies.
Scrap remains a versatile, readily available resource that anchors many crafting and defensive options across the campaign and custom maps.
