Electric Grill

The Electric Grill is a powered cooking station used to turn raw ingredients into prepared meals. It is the core mid-game cooking building before more advanced food production, and its recipes cover a wide range of dishes from simple processed ingredients to high-quality meals. Like other cooking stations, it produces food that relieves stress and can remove foodborne disease from the ingredients it cooks.

Once a recipe is enabled, duplicants or an Auto-Sweeper can supply the required ingredients automatically, and the food will be cooked as soon as all inputs are present. Ingredients stored in the Electric Grill do not spoil, which makes it useful for holding perishables safely while waiting to cook. Operating it is a Cooking task, and it consumes 60 W while in use. Most recipes have a base cook time of 50 seconds, while Pickled Meal uses a shorter base time of 30 seconds. The actual cooking time depends mainly on the duplicant’s Cooking attribute: higher skill shortens the process and reduces the power used during cooking. Using the Electric Grill also grants Cooking skill points.

• Omelette from Raw Egg
• Soufflé Pancakes from Raw Egg and Sleet Wheat Grain
• Barbeque from Meat
• Cooked Seafood from Pacu Fillet or Raw Shellfish
• Swampy Delights from Bog Jelly
• Roast Grubfruit Nut from Spindly Grubfruit
• Grubfruit Preserve from Grubfruit

Several of these are straightforward upgrades to otherwise mediocre ingredients. Pickled Meal extends Meal Lice shelf life by a factor of four without adding any other benefit, while Frost Bun halves the shelf life of Sleet Wheat Grain and Barbeque halves the shelf life of Meat. Grubfruit Preserve is a strong mid-tier food with shelf life comparable to Pickled Meal. Soufflé Pancakes are a better-quality alternative to Omelette when starting from Raw Eggs, and some dishes can later be improved further at the Gas Range.
