Dirt

Overview
Dirt is a basic buildable ground tile resource used in Timberborn for landscaping and construction. It appears as a stockpileable good that workers can place to raise terrain, fill holes, or create level surfaces for other buildings and farming. Dirt interacts directly with water management and earth-moving tasks within a settlement's logistics.
Dirt is produced and consumed by specific buildings and jobs: terrain can be excavated to generate dirt, and dirt is used when terraforming or erecting foundations where soil is required. Workers with hauling or landscaping tasks will transport dirt between stockpiles, construction sites, and excavation locations. Proper placement of dirt stockpiles near construction or farming zones reduces travel time and increases workflow efficiency.
- Dirt is stored in standard goods storage and moved by haulers; placing storage close to work sites reduces bottlenecks.
- Excavation yields dirt that must be carried to a stockpile before it can be used for building; plan excavation routes to avoid idle haul cycles.
- Use dirt to level terrain for farms and foundations; having an ample supply prevents construction delays when expanding the city.
- Dirt availability ties into water and soil systems indirectly because waterlogged or flooded areas affect where dirt can be placed; coordinate pumping and drainage with terraforming.
- Monitor workforce assignment so that enough beavers perform hauling/landscaping when large-scale terraforming is undertaken, otherwise dirt will accumulate in remote excavation spots and slow progress.
