Planks

Overview
Planks are a basic crafted good used across many mid- and late-game buildings and constructions. They form a key node in the wood processing production chain: raw wood (logs) is converted into planks, which in turn unlock and feed numerous structures and production processes. Planks are produced in powered processing buildings and are required both as construction materials and as inputs for other goods.
Planks appear in the game's goods list as a manufactured timber product. Their production requires a sawmill or equivalent processing building that consumes logs and uses power to run. Producing planks is an early requirement to unlock additional buildings in the wood-processing chain; once planks are available, the player can progress to other powered facilities that take planks as inputs or use them for crafting more advanced items.
Practical notes and interactions:
- Production chain:
Logs → Planks → further wood-based goods and unlocked buildings. The sawmill (or the specific building listed in the game's production UI) converts logs into planks; that building typically requires electrical power to operate and may be the prerequisite to unlock the remainder of the wood-processing chain.
- Power dependence: Many of the buildings that take planks as input or produce planks themselves require power. Plan your power grid and backups before scaling plank production.
- Storage and throughput: Treat planks as a single-type good when stored; ensure storage capacity and transport networks (walkways, worker access) match production rate to avoid backups of logs or idle sawmills.
- Usage: Planks are consumed by multiple crafting and construction processes. Keep a steady supply to avoid stalling research or construction that depends on wood-derived goods.
- Expansion: As your settlement grows, larger-capacity storage tanks and warehouses for liquids and other goods become relevant, but planks remain a common solid good requiring dedicated storage space and transport planning.
