Igneous the Molten Mass

Overview
Igneous the Molten Mass is an optional boss found in the Molten Quarry. The quarry generates roughly 650 tiles from The Core and is much larger than a normal quarry, making Igneous one of the more distant major encounters in the underground world. A scanner can be used to reveal the boss’s location on the map, and when Igneous is nearby the game gives clear warnings through a loud thumping sound and screen shaking.
Once defeated, Igneous can be summoned again by placing a Giant Slime Summoning Idol on the rune beneath the original spawn point.
At full health, Igneous only begins attacking players who come within 6 tiles. After taking damage, this aggro range expands to 20 tiles. Igneous’s main movement pattern is a fast leap toward the nearest player, damaging anything at the landing point and leaving behind Ground Magma Slime. During this movement, Igneous also destroys any non-indestructible object in its path, including walls, and fills pits or liquids with Lava Rock Block ground. This makes the fight highly destructive and can quickly reshape the surrounding area.
Every 5–7 seconds, Igneous stops briefly and uses one of two special attacks:
- It fires fireballs at the nearest player, dealing moderate damage and inflicting burn.
- It spawns several magma blobs nearby. These blobs slowly move toward Igneous and heal it for 10% of its health if they make contact. They can be destroyed in a single hit, and their number increases with each player in the world and again when Igneous becomes enraged.
If players move out of range during the fight, or if Igneous travels more than 25 tiles from its rune, it returns to the rune and regenerates 10% of its maximum health every 5 seconds. This makes the battle much safer when fought away from the original arena, but also punishes retreat if the boss is not kept engaged.
At 50% health, Igneous becomes enraged, moving much faster and spawning more magma blobs. The extra speed makes its leaps harder to avoid, and the increased blob count makes its healing pressure more dangerous if the adds are not dealt with immediately.
Useful ways to handle the fight include:
- Staying stocked on cooked food made from fish caught in the Molten Quarry, which helps counter the burn effect from both Ground Magma Slime and fireballs.
- Using a fast-attacking ranged weapon to quickly remove magma blobs before they can heal Igneous.
- Parrying its leap attacks with a shield, which can make the fight much easier with good timing.
- Wearing strong armor and keeping high-quality healing potions ready, since many of Igneous’s attacks can be absorbed and recovered from if you are prepared.
