Overview

The Core Commander is a late-game boss summoned from the Crystal Meteorite after all six titan souls have been obtained. It is fought in two phases and is designed around breaking its orbiting spheres, creating brief windows where the boss can be damaged before the spheres restore and the cycle repeats.

To start the fight for the first time, interact with and shatter the Crystal Meteorite after collecting the six titan souls. After it has been defeated once, it can be summoned again by placing a Core Commander Summoning Idol on the rune inside the meteorite. Once the boss has been defeated, the Cloaked Merchant begins selling the summoning idol.

In both phases, the Core Commander is initially invulnerable and has three spheres orbiting it. Each sphere must be defeated before the boss becomes vulnerable. When a sphere is destroyed, it falls to the ground, stays in place, and continuously releases damaging electric orbs in a pentagonal pattern. After all three spheres are defeated, the Core Commander is paralyzed and can be damaged for a limited time. Once that window ends, the spheres return to full health and begin orbiting again, repeating the fight. The boss’s health loss during each vulnerable period is soft-capped at 50% of its maximum health, so under normal circumstances it must be paralyzed at least twice per phase to be defeated, although high damage output can bypass this limit.

During phase 1, the Core Commander uses three main attack types:

  • Lightning bolts are summoned near the player in one of four patterns: a circle with a random opening, two rows above and below the player, three groups converging on the player, or a single fast-moving bolt.
  • Purple whirlwinds are periodically summoned and pull nearby players. The rune shows where they will appear, but they can become active before the visual effect fully forms and may even appear directly under the player.
  • Three triangular projectiles are fired that home in on the player, deal heavy damage, and disappear after hitting a block or after a few seconds.

After its health is depleted, the Core Commander restores to full health, becomes the Unleashed Core Commander, and enters phase 2. The second phase adds a void attack: a sound cue warns that the space around the boss will turn into void, leaving three circular safe zones. Standing in the void applies a damage-over-time debuff that drains 20% of maximum health per second, so the safe zones must be used until the attack ends. The same lightning bolt attacks from phase 1 continue in this phase, except for the single-bolt version, and they are cast around the safe zones. The safe zones shrink over time to about one tile in radius before the attack finishes. If the Core Commander is paralyzed during this attack, it ends immediately. Phase 2 also increases lightning bolt movement speed and causes whirlwinds to spawn farther from the boss.

In fight preparation, the most important goal is to destroy the three spheres quickly and safely, since every vulnerable window is timed and the boss can continue to pressure the arena even while invulnerable. The void attack in phase 2 is especially dangerous because it forces movement toward the shrinking safe zones rather than toward the boss. After the fight, interacting with The Core plays the outro and credits, and the boss’s defeat advances the game’s ending sequence.
