Overview

The Gravity Matrix is the second-most advanced science matrix and one of the five basic source codes that keep the CentreBrain simulating to some extent. It is a green matrix and is effectively the last matrix needed before completion in a normal playthrough. In the tech tree, it is used to unlock Universe Exploration (Lv4), greatly increase Space Warper production for interstellar travel, and advance Dyson Sphere development by improving Ray Receivers. Its progression path begins with the Planetary Ionosphere Utilization feature and continues to Critical Photons generation, which ultimately leads to Antimatter.

Producing Gravity Matrices at scale requires a dense late-game supply chain. A rate of 60 per minute requires 30 per minute of Graviton Lens and 30 per minute of Quantum Chips. The corresponding upstream demand includes 120 Diamonds per minute for the Graviton Lens chain, plus Strange Matter, Processors, and Plane Filters for the Quantum Chip chain. Because both main inputs are deeply processed intermediates, the matrix is usually treated as a finished product of a fully developed industrial base rather than an early research target.

The Graviton Lens side is often organized as a material upgrade chain: Electromagnetic Turbine into Particle Container, then Strange Matter, and finally Graviton Lens. Strange Matter is particularly demanding because each unit requires 10 Deuterium and can only be produced in a Miniature Particle Collider. This step places heavy pressure on both power and space, since the collider is a large structure and consumes 12 MW per machine. Hydrogen demand also becomes substantial, so relying on Crude Oil refining alone is not enough; Gas Giant mining is the practical long-term source.

Quantum Chips are even more complex. Without rare resource substitutions, their production chain draws on Iron Ore, Copper Ore, titanium, silicon, Coal, Stone, Crude Oil, and Water. The most troublesome part is the Casimir Crystal requirement, since that chain needs titanium crystals, Graphene, and Hydrogen. Processors are also required in quantity, which makes the silicon demand very high. Combined with their use in other late-game systems, Quantum Chips can exhaust a starting star system’s silicon deposits before the game is finished, so establishing off-world silicon logistics early is important.

A few practical points make Gravity Matrix production easier to manage:

  • Overproduce both inputs slightly, since Gravity Matrices are also used as a crafting material for Space Warpers.
  • Plan for extra Hydrogen beyond what the recipe suggests, especially if your Strange Matter and Casimir Crystal chains are both expanding at once.
  • The matrix chain benefits from a dedicated late-game industrial block, since its upstream requirements are broad and its power draw can be significant.
  • If resources are tight, the production load can be reduced by half, and Diamond smelting should be rounded up to avoid underproduction.

Because the Gravity Matrix supports both research and logistics, it is one of the key bottlenecks that marks the transition from a planetary economy to a galaxy-scale one.
