Overview

The Space Warper is a consumable component used to enable warp travel. It is a major progression milestone in Dyson Sphere Program, because it allows Icarus to cross interstellar distances far faster than normal flight and also lets Logistics Vessels warp between star systems once the proper logistics technology has been researched.

To use a Space Warper with Icarus, Drive Engine Level 4 must be researched. After Icarus rises high enough above a planet to be free of gravity, pressing the warp key will consume one Space Warper and enter Mecha Warp mode, greatly increasing acceleration and energy usage. Warp mode has a base top speed of 12.5 AU/s, and later Drive Engine upgrades can increase that limit. When approaching a star system, Icarus will begin slowing down within about 1 light-year of the destination so the player does not overshoot it. Deactivating warp does not consume another warper; only activation does. Space Warpers are not fuel for warp travel themselves, but rather the item required to trigger it.

There are two crafting routes for Space Warpers. The first uses Graviton Lenses and is available earlier, making it useful for limited personal use and small-scale supply. The second uses Gravity Matrices and is much more efficient for production at scale, yielding 8 Space Warpers per craft and reducing the overall cost in Deuterium and other resources. Because of that efficiency gap, it is usually best to save the Lens-based recipe for temporary needs and switch to the Gravity Matrix recipe once it is unlocked.

Space Warpers can also be fed into an Interstellar Logistics Station to enable warp travel for Logistics Vessels after Logistics Carrier Engine Level 4 is researched. A vessel consumes 2 Space Warpers per trip, one for the outbound leg and one for the return leg. The station settings determine how far away a destination must be before warp is used, or whether warp is used at all. Even though vessels can technically travel between systems without warping if their engine upgrades are high enough, supplying Space Warpers dramatically reduces transit time.

  • Until Gravity Matrices are unlocked, avoid overproducing Space Warpers; the Graviton Lens recipe is much less efficient.
  • Once Mecha Core Level 4 is reached, Icarus can fly about 6 light-years in a single warp before running out of energy.
  • Because one activation always consumes one Space Warper, they are best treated as a travel enabler rather than a continuous resource drain.
  • For logistics, keep Space Warpers stocked in Interstellar Logistics Stations if you want vessels to use warp consistently.
