Watering Can

The Watering Can is a farming tool used to water tilled dirt and planted crops. It is one of the first pieces of farming equipment available, and it is essential for starting a crop plot because watering crops also grants farming experience. Once the Farming Licence Level 1 has been obtained from Fletch, it can be bought from Plant Shop Deed.

The basic Watering Can waters a single tile directly in front of the player. It does not break from use, which makes it unusual compared with many other tools. When it is empty, using it produces a dry scratching sound instead of watering anything. A used watering can can be refilled at several water sources, including the ocean, rivers, Water Tank, Brick Fountain, Brick Well, Garden Tap, and Waterbed.

The Watering Can can be upgraded into better versions as farming progresses. After reaching Farming Licence Level 2, the Copper Watering Can can be crafted at the Crafting Table, provided the watering can being upgraded is filled with water. This version waters a 3x1 area in front of the player, covering three tiles wide and one tile deep. After reaching Farming Licence Level 3, the Iron Watering Can can also be crafted at the Crafting Table, again requiring the filled previous version as the upgrade source. The Iron Watering Can expands the watered area to 3x2, making it much more efficient for tending rows of crops and prepared soil.

Because watering is tied to crop growth and farming experience, upgrading the can quickly improves day-to-day farm work. The wider coverage of the Copper and Iron versions reduces the time spent moving between rows, especially on larger fields, while the refill system keeps the tool usable even during extended planting and harvesting runs.
