Overview

Super-Magnetic Rings are an advanced crafting component used throughout the mid- and late-game, especially in recipes related to electromagnetic systems and high-tier logistics and energy infrastructure. They appear in many building and item recipes, including accumulators, EM-rail ejectors, and other equipment that depends on strong magnetic fields. They are also used in Deuteron Fuel Rods, making them an important intermediate for Dyson Sphere progression.

The recipe is more complex than most early components because it uses three basic inputs and also consumes Electromagnetic Turbines. Although the material inputs are not extremely fast on a per-second basis, the long crafting time makes the production chain substantial overall. A finished production line still has to support roughly 1 ring per second at efficient scaling, and high-volume output requires a large amount of Magnetic Coil production upstream. One production benchmark gives 2 Super-Magnetic Rings per second from 69 Smelters and 54 Assembling Machines at full efficiency, while a smaller setup of 35 Smelters and 54 Assemblers can produce about 1 per second at around 99% efficiency.

Super-Magnetic Rings use only basic raw materials—Iron Ore, Copper Ore, Coal, and Hydrogen in the crude oil-based chain—but they also require 2 Electromagnetic Turbines per unit, which is what makes the recipe expensive in practice. Because of this, the material cost is high even before accounting for the supporting infrastructure. In one production chain analysis, the iron demand is especially heavy, to the point that a single ring can consume a large amount of Iron Ore relative to its other inputs.

They are one of the key materials behind major mid-game and late-game expansion. In practice, their main uses are:

  • Conveyor Belt Mk.III
  • Deuteron Fuel Rods
  • Accumulators
  • EM-rail ejectors
  • Other advanced buildings and items tied to electromagnetic power systems

This makes them a core bottleneck for players scaling into interplanetary logistics and Dyson Sphere construction. Since Deuteron Fuel Rods are later required for Small Carrier Rockets, Super-Magnetic Rings indirectly support the entire sphere-building chain. They are also required in quantities large enough that players should plan dedicated production space rather than treating them as a side product.

One important planning note is that Hydrogen created in the crude oil-based production route must be recycled through the system to maintain full efficiency. The production chart shows that the listed Hydrogen amount at the final stage is the remaining surplus after recycling, and that excess can be redirected elsewhere if needed.

Super-Magnetic Rings are unlocked as part of the research progression associated with Conveyor Belt Slope Limit, which appears in the Upgrades menu. Despite the complicated recipe, they are one of the most important general-purpose intermediate items once advanced construction and energy systems begin to scale.
