Overview

Core: Bastion is a planetary core variant used to store resources and serve as the primary base hub on certain planets. It functions as both a large item container and as the determinant of how many active units a player may have; each upgrade tier increases item capacity and changes the allowed maximum active units. On planets where multiple cores are expected, Core: Bastion is available directly in the build menu so players can place several cores across the map to expand logistics and unit capacity.

The Bastion behaves differently depending on the planet template. On Serpulo, Bastion tiers provide progressively larger item capacity and increase the maximum number of active units with each upgrade tier. Typical Serpulo Bastion sizes and stats include a 3×3 base with moderate health and a lower item capacity, then 4×4 and 5×5 upgrades that substantially raise capacity and active unit allowance. On Erekir, Bastion is designed to be deployed in multiples: its build cost is greater relative to the item capacity compared to Serpulo cores, the maximum active units remain constant across tiers, and each Bastion tier gains armor in addition to increased health and storage. Cores on Erekir must have an appropriate core zone beneath every tile that the upgraded core would occupy in order to be upgraded.

Core: Bastion also enforces resource cleanliness on Erekir: items that are not consumed to construct blocks are incinerated by the core instead of being retained. This means raw surplus items placed near an Erekir Bastion will be destroyed unless they are used during building, which encourages distributed core placement and careful logistics management.

Practical notes for using Core: Bastion

  • Place multiple Bastions on Erekir maps to expand storage and to avoid losing surplus items to automatic incineration; Erekir designs expect several cores rather than a single central core.
  • Ensure core zones (the area the game recognizes as belonging to the core) cover every tile of a planned upgraded core on Erekir before attempting an upgrade; otherwise upgrades will fail.
  • Use Bastions as the central hubs for conveyors and factories because each tier increases item capacity substantially; on Serpulo, upgrading cores also directly raises the maximum number of active units, which can be decisive for large unit-based defenses or assaults.
  • Be aware of the differing armor and health values between planet types: Erekir Bastions have higher health and armor at higher tiers, making them more resilient to attack, while Serpulo Bastions prioritize scaling unit caps alongside storage.
  • Because Bastions determine launch eligibility in campaign maps, ensure you meet the required core tier when planning sector launches where a minimum core level is required.
