Overdrive Projector

Increases the speed of nearby buildings. Optionally uses phase fabric to boost range and efficiency. Does not stack.
Overview
The Overdrive Projector is a targeted
An Overdrive Projector applies an Overdrive boost that multiplies both resource consumption and output rates of affected blocks. Power production and consumption scale with the boost, and producers that use items or coolant will consume those inputs more quickly. Industry blocks (drills, refineries, unit factories, reconstructors, etc.) complete tasks faster but require proportionally more items and liquids. Transport blocks increase throughput, turrets fire and rotate more rapidly while drawing additional ammo and coolant, repair blocks heal and repair points tick faster, and logic processors execute more instructions per second. Blocks accept only the single strongest Overdrive boost available and ignore weaker overlapping boosts; Overdrive Projectors do not stack with other Projectors or Domes, and other Overdrive Projectors or Domes inside its range are unaffected by its own boost. Non-Overdrive boosts such as coolant effects and terrain bonuses still stack with Overdrive.
Key numeric properties and behavior:
- The Projector provides a continuous boost at a rate of 0.15/sec when active, increasing the field’s effective strength over time.
- Its coverage extends approximately +2.5 blocks radius from the projector.
- The intended speed increase delivered by the projector raises target block speed; base documentation lists a speed change from +50% to a combined +125% in some contexts, and canonical per-block displays may list a +50% base speed increase for the active boost. Using Overdrive increases required input rates proportionally; one documented required input for maintaining the projector is 210 items/sec in certain contexts.
- The building’s health and build time have been adjusted across versions; a past update increased its health from 160 to 175, and its build time has been marginally reduced.
Practical usage and interactions:
- Use Projectors to quickly remedy local shortages (for example, temporary power,
Silicon,
Thorium, or
Sand boosts). - Condense higher-tier unit production by overdriving Cryofluid Mixers or
Phase Fabric production lines; ensure output handling (e.g., Phase Weavers) can accept increased throughput.
- Overdriving generators greatly increases power output per generator but increases their draw on fuel and coolant—overdrive can make each generator consume significantly more power or resources, so plan energy supply accordingly.
- Overdrive does increase coolant consumption for turrets and other coolant-using blocks (this behavior was fixed in Version 7.0; earlier versions had inconsistent coolant scaling, notably with the
Spectre).
- Because only the strongest overdrive source applies per block, place Projectors to cover only zones you intend to accelerate, and avoid redundant overlap with Overdrive Domes or other Projectors.
The Overdrive Projector is a high-density efficiency tool: it sacrifices area for intensity, letting players trade space and resource throughput for dramatically faster production or stronger temporary defenses in focused locations.
