Overview

The water pump is a Timberborn building that moves and supplies water. Regular water pumps create drinkable water and are available in faction-specific variants: the Folktails water pump and the Iron Teeth deep water pump. The Folktails water pump has a pumping depth of 2, while the Iron Teeth deep water pump reaches a pumping depth of 6. Both regular pumps have a listed cost of 12.

A mechanical water pump is a more efficient variant that transfers water from one side to the other but does not produce drinkable water. Mechanical pumps are also faction-specific: the Folktails mechanical water pump has a pumping depth of 4, and the Iron Teeth deep mechanical water pump has a pumping depth of 6. The mechanical pumps have listed construction costs of 100, 50, and 50 (three resource cost entries as shown in sources) and a consumption value of 700.

Water interaction rules relevant to pumps determine how and when pumps can operate. Flowing water from a water source continues to flow until it reaches an edge of the map; once flowing water reaches the edge it flows off and de-spawns. Water sources placed at the edge of a map block the flow of water above themselves from leaving the map. Water sources only produce flowing water during temperate weather; during drought they dry up and cease producing flowing water. Water sources have a strength value up to 8.0 and can be set to negative values by mapmakers to absorb water instead of generating it.

  • Regular water pumps (create drinkable water): Folktails variant — pumping depth 2, cost 12; Iron Teeth deep variant — pumping depth 6, cost 12.
  • Mechanical water pumps (do not create drinkable water; transfer water): Folktails variant — pumping depth 4, costs 100 / 50 / 50, consumption 700; Iron Teeth deep variant — pumping depth 6, costs 100 / 50 / 50, consumption 700.
  • Flowing water continues until the map edge and de-spawns when it leaves the map; water sources on the map edge prevent outflow above them.
  • Water sources only produce during temperate weather and stop producing during drought.
  • Water source strength ranges up to 8.0 and can be made negative by mapmakers to absorb water.

A representative image of a water pump placed in a filled river is commonly used in guides and galleries.
