Vertical Tubeway

The Vertical Tubeway is a building used in Timberborn to provide vertical connections within a Tubeway System. It connects automatically to other existing tubeways and does not require removal or rebuilding to reconfigure the network. The Vertical Tubeway is the only solid tubeway piece that permits vertical pathing and is required to connect the underside of a Tubeway Station to the rest of the network.

Vertical Tubeways can be constructed underwater. Open-ended Vertical Tubeways do not let water into the system and the building is not affected by the Flooded state as a whole. Because it is solid, the Vertical Tubeway differs from the standard Tubeway sections by enabling upward and downward routing where ordinary tubeway segments cannot.

Placing a Vertical Tubeway beneath a Tubeway Station is the supported method to route tubeways into the station from below. Builders working from a Builders' Hut have special interactions with Vertical Tubeways: a builder who is physically inside a Vertical Tubeway can continue to build while inside it. In addition to the normal reach limitations on Paths, builders inside a Vertical Tubeway can build vertically upwards directly above their heads. This extends the reach of the Iron Teeth builders and allows for rapid construction and cleanup immediately around the Vertical Tubeway footprint, as well as for quick upward construction. Beavers assigned to other workplaces must leave the station to perform non-building tasks.
