Overview

The Large Barrier Projector is a defensive building that generates a circular shield field by projecting a multi-sided polygonal barrier. It functions as an upgraded, larger variant of the Barrier Projector family and is used to protect structures and units from incoming damage by creating an area in which projectiles and some attacks are blocked or mitigated. The visible shield is constructed as an Icositetragon (a 24‑sided polygon) to approximate a smooth circular boundary.

The projector must be powered to activate its shield. When active, the shield creates a physical barrier mesh that blocks or reduces damage from most projectile weapons and can change tactical flows around chokepoints and important installations. In legacy Aegis maps and older versions, Barrier Projectors were present as defensive objectives; historically a special unit or item ("Shield Breaker") could be used with 100 Tungsten to destroy them instantly.

An active Large Barrier Projector can be loaded into a unit that has at least a 3×3 payload capacity and is powered while loaded. Loading an active projector into a compatible transport or combat unit preserves its powered state visually, but this state is primarily cosmetic: a projector carried inside a unit does not meaningfully block or redirect enemy units or incoming fire for the carrier or nearby units. Placing a Power Source into the carrier can allow the projector to remain functional when unloaded, but the in-transport behavior should not be relied upon as a substitute for fixed defensive placement.

Practical notes and interactions:

  • The shield’s apparent circularity comes from a 24‑sided polygonal mesh; expect small angular segments at very close inspection, but effectively treat it as circular for placement and coverage considerations.
  • Power is required for operation; ensure a stable power supply to keep the projector active during attacks.
  • Use Large Barrier Projectors to form overlapping fields around high-value targets or to create temporary protected corridors; their larger radius makes them suited for covering multiple adjacent structures.
  • Do not rely on carrying an active projector inside a unit for defensive effect against enemies; transport-loaded projectors are primarily visual and do not reproduce the full blocking behavior of a placed projector.
  • In scenarios or custom maps that include legacy mechanics, a Shield Breaker interaction may exist; in standard play, this is not a routine mechanic unless explicitly implemented by the map.

Deploy Large Barrier Projectors as part of layered defenses: combine them with direct-fire turrets, repair and power infrastructure, and terrain funnels to maximize their effectiveness while avoiding expectations that mobile or carried projectors will substitute for stationary shield coverage.
